Topic: The Sovereignty of Allah

(Translation and Tafsir of Selected Important Verses)

The Noble Verse

Simple Translation

He is Allah, the Creator, the Originator, the Fashioner; to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth declares His purity. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
Surah — Al-Hashr | Revealed in — Madinah | Verse — 24

The Noble Verse

Simple Translation

All praise is for Allah, the Owner [1] of whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth; and all praise in the Hereafter is His alone. [2] He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware.
Surah — Saba | Revealed in — Makkah | Verse — 01

Brief Tafsir

[1] That is, it is under His ownership and control, and His will and decree alone prevail in it. Every blessing that people have received is His creation and His grace. Hence the praise offered by everything in the heavens and the earth is, in reality, praise of Allah for the blessings He has bestowed upon His creation.
[2] This praise will be offered by the believers on the Day of Resurrection. For example: "All praise is for Allah, who has fulfilled His promise to us......" (Surah Az-Zumar 39:74)
"All praise is for Allah, who guided us to this." (Surah Al-A'raf 7:43)
"All praise is for Allah, who has removed all grief from us." (Surah Fatir 35:34) and so on.
Moreover, praising and glorifying Allah in this world is a form of worship which people have been commanded to perform. And in the Hereafter (in Paradise) it will be nourishment for the souls of the believers, through which they will enjoy delight and happiness.
(Fath al-Qadir)

The Noble Verse

Simple Translation

Indeed, to Allah alone belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He alone gives life and He alone causes death. And besides Allah, you have no protector and no helper.
Surah — At-Tawbah | Revealed in — Madinah | Verse — 116

The Noble Verse

Simple Translation

They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the Messiah, son of Maryam." Say: If that is so, then tell me — if Allah intended to destroy the Messiah, son of Maryam, his mother and everyone on the earth altogether, is there anyone who could protect them from Allah in the least? To Allah alone belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. He creates whatever He wills. And Allah has power over all things.
Surah — Al-Ma'idah | Revealed in — Madinah | Verse — 17

Brief Tafsir

In this verse, Allah the Exalted describes His infinite power and complete sovereignty. The aim is to refute the creed and belief of the Christians who hold that the Messiah (peace be upon him) is himself Allah. Initially, only a small number of people held the belief that 'the Messiah (peace be upon him) is himself Allah' ('Jesus is God') — that is, only one sect of the Christians, known as the Jacobites (Ya'qubiyyah).
But today, almost all of their sects regard 'Isa (peace be upon him) as God in one way or another. This is why belief in the Trinity has come to hold a central place as a fundamental basis of Christianity.
Yet this verse of the Noble Quran clearly declares that attributing the qualities of Allah to any Prophet or Messenger is open disbelief (kufr). The Christians committed this kufr by making the Messiah (peace be upon him) into God. If any other sect or group removes any other Prophet or Messenger from the station of being a human being and a Messenger and places him in the station of Allah, they too will be committing kufr. (We seek refuge with Allah from this false belief.)
