بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Topic: The Signs of Allah

(Translation and Tafsir of Selected Important Verses)

The Noble Verse

وَإِذْ فَرَقْنَا بِكُمُ الْبَحْرَ فَأَنجَيْنَاكُمْ وَأَغْرَقْنَا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ

[البقرة: 50]

Simple Translation

And (recall) when We parted the sea for you (1) and saved you, and drowned the people of Pharaoh (in the sea) while you were looking on.

Brief Tafsir

(1) The splitting of the sea to make a path was a mu'jizah (miracle); its detailed account will come in Surah Ash-Shu'ara 26:10–68. It was not a matter of the tide's ebb and flow, as Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and other deniers of miracles claim.

The Noble Verse

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ الَّذِينَ اعْتَدَوْا مِنكُمْ فِي السَّبْتِ فَقُلْنَا لَهُمْ كُونُوا قِرَدَةً خَاسِئِينَ

[البقرة: 65]

Simple Translation

And you certainly know those among you who transgressed concerning the Sabbath (1) (the day of rest). We said to them, 'Become despised apes.'
Surah — Al-Baqarah | Verse — 65

Brief Tafsir

(1) On the Sabbath (Saturday), the Jews had been forbidden to fish or to do any other worldly work. But they devised a pretext and violated Allah's command. On the Sabbath (as a test), the fish would come in great numbers. So they dug channels in which the fish would become trapped, and the next day, on Sunday, they would catch them.

The Noble Verse

إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللَّهِ الْإِسْلَامُ ۗ وَمَا اخْتَلَفَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَهُمُ الْعِلْمُ بَغْيًا بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ

[آل عمران: 19]

Simple Translation

Indeed, the religion (chosen) with Allah is Islam alone. [1] Those who were given the Book fell into disagreement out of mutual envy, even after knowledge had come to them! [2] And whoever denies the signs [3] of Allah (let him know that) Allah is indeed swift in reckoning.
Surah — Al 'Imran | Verse — 19

Brief Tafsir

[1] Islam is the chosen religion to which all the Prophets called in every age and which they all taught.
[2] 'Disagreement' refers to the mutual disputes that the followers of one and the same religion stirred up among themselves, arising not from evidence but from envy, malice and enmity.
[3] Here, 'signs' refers to those signs which prove that Islam is the religion chosen by Allah.

The Noble Verse

وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوا إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةً وَرَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

[الروم: 21]

Simple Translation

And among His signs is that He created for you, from among yourselves, spouses so that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who reflect.
Surah — Ar-Rum | Verse — 21

The Noble Verse

أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَاهَا وَزَيَّنَّاهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ

[ق: 6]

Simple Translation

Do they not look at the sky above them — how We have built it [1] and adorned it, [2] and it has no rifts? [3]
Surah — Qaf | Verse — 06

Brief Tafsir

[1] That is, without any pillars on which it might rest.
[2] That is, it has been adorned with the stars.
[3] Likewise, there is no imbalance or flaw in it.
